Humayu protected her kingdom and kept his promise.

Raksha Bandhan 2013 Celebration | How to Celebrate rakshabandhan 

The preparation for the festival starts well before the day,  markets are filled up with sweets and different types of rakhi. On this auspicious day the sister ties a rakhi on the hand of brother as a mark of love and honour, the brother in return offers a gift to his sister and promise to look after her. The brother and sister traditionally feed each other sweets. The brother and sister have to treat each other well on this day. This festival mainly celebrated in north and east regions but now it is celebrated all over India.
On the day of festival all members wake up early in the morning then the sweets and rakhi threads are arranged. Sister prepares thali for the puja . the thali consist of rice grains incense sticks, kumkum and an earthen or metal lamp called diya. The first offerings of the day are made to the deities of the family, then arti ceremony, a pious Hindu festival, is performed. After completion of aarti the sister puts chawal(rice) and tilak on the forehead of the brother and then ties rakhi on his hand sacred mantras are chanted all around as the brother and sister are united by one of the heavenly pledges. The sister wishes for the brother’s well-being, success and protection. New relations are also made on this day the girls tie rakhi to their neighbours, and thus become a family.
Now in the modern India where we do not usually have time to meet our brothers and sisters no matters how near and far we live, rakshabandhan still brings us together and reunites our family. However some of the traditions have changed many sisters keep the tying of rakhi very simple, no mantras are chanted after the tying of the rakhi all become busy again. Now also the rakhihas changed its shape and size, different types of rakhis are available in the market like wrist watch, bracelets, designers etc etc. A common gift is money given by the brothers. Families go outside for lunch or dinner together, but most of the families make dishes in their house and enjoys.
Overall it is a festival which unites the people. The bonding between brother and sister become strong, they took promise to take care of each other in every situation. This festival clearly defines the culture of India here unrelated boys and men who are considered to be brothers can be tied rakhi, provided they commit to a lifelong promise to provide protection to the woman or the girl.
